Science of the Olympic Winter Games
This a collaboration between NBC and the National Science Foundation to show how science helps athletes fulfill the Olympic motto: "Citius, Altius, Fortius" — Swifter, Higher, Stronger. So the Olympics are fully underway and so is your project! I hope that your conference went well and that you left both feeling confident and with questions to be answered. I look forward to seeing your final product with the physics of your sport explained and quantified.Yes, quantified, I want you to be able to explain the physics and what it should mean and also to be able to back up your theories of how the sport works with formal calculations.
That is where I am hoping that this blog can help! Many of your sports include many of the same principles and concepts in many of the same ways. Many of you have been better at different concepts that the few that dominate your sport. The Laws that govern motion and energy encompass ALL motion and energy!
So I encourage you to visit the site as I post things commenting on things discussed in class or on televsion. And I encourage you to post things, comments, questions that may arise for you as you move forward with your project. This should be a fun and exciting project, embrace it and it will be!
